Big %#@^** Amazon Catfish

Back

I was filming a few years back on the Unini River with Matt Williams a well known Outdoor Writer from Nacogdoches Texas and his friend Capt Kirk. We ran some limb lines and caught some nice Red Tail Cats, which can grow up to be real monsters...like 500 pounds and more. I have heard up to 700 but 100 LBS is the biggest I have caught on this part of the river.

The Amazon is a crazy place...if you ever can, you have got to fish these waters

the tackle seems a bit over the top, in the uk we use 20lb line for 80lb cats and that hook is blatantly not necessary, at 2.07 you can clearly see the hook point and barb poking out the fish's eye socket, a much smaller hook would have done. even for 500lb fish 100lb line would surely do? and a smaller hook unless you know its gonne be over 150lb

That some nice fish! When I was a kid we would go to Lake Texoma and fish for big cat fish in entertubes. They would pull you around you had to wear them down. Fun
