Well, as a fan of his, yes. Or, more correctly, a fan of what his best authors made him out to be (I don't care for Matthew, and John bores me). I don't believe he was divine. But with the possible exception of the Buddha, he's my favorite religious spokesperson. And western civilization certainly wouldn't be here without Christianity.

Again, I agree. But please, let's not attribute all of humanity's shortcomings to religion. There are plenty of other things wrong with us. The very thing that makes religiously motivated violence possible in the first place is a basic, vicious ingroup/outgroup way of thinking. Religion is problematic in many ways, but mostly I think it would be more helpful to regard it as a symptom than as a decice.

In a book of hearsay and anecdotal claims of testimony....the bible doesn't teach anything to anyone...people teach the bible differently...in fact 33,830 denominations of christianity teach it differently from one another.

The KJV bible is universally regarded as one of the most error-ridden versions that exist today. So I certainly wouldn't appeal to that.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Is your point that God can't exist because bad things happen to good people? My appeal to Jesus would rather be to highlight sayings of his, such as "Judge not, lest ye be judged" or "Let him who is without guilt cast the first stone."

True, but I think the Holocaust has put the whole planet on such a watch against antisemitically motivated genocide that the Jews are quite safe for now. Except, as has been shown in the last few days in Bombay, from Islamic extremists.

To be fair, just because the Holocaust was carried out mainly by practicing Catholic Christians it's obviously unfair to put all the blame on Christianity.
