I remember being fascinated the first time i heard 'Gateway', too long ago to remember when, But John has always been a musician I never of listening to. The guy alway had a knack for writing a good tune, as opposed to a lot of guitarists who just seem to be technically great but a bit soul-less. The kind of music that demands your attention, and rewards it too. You always seem to be able to understand 'why' he played it, even if you're at a complete loss to understand how.

Wow, what a beautiful distorted sound! He sounds more like Mick Goodrick than John Scofield. Come to think of it, I like the sound of the whole group. Somebody mentioned "Timeless", this clip is a lot like that. John has some cool recordings with Jan Hammer and the late great Michael Brecker.

My quartet opened for J A back in 03......it was one big highlight for my career.....anyway, I love hearing him playing along with the B3 organ......great video, thanks!

Thanks for posting this video. Abercrombie is a such an underrated guitarist. He's a great musician. If you don't own it already, check out "Homecoming" by Gateway, with Dave Holland, John Abercrombie and Jack DeJohnette. What an awesome trio!
