Words of wisdom there. (Sorry, you'll have to go back and remember what you wrote 5 months ago!)

You said Rick twice... I assume you meant Steve the first time?

alan white is good playing HIS stuff... but when he tries to play brufford complex songs as close to the edge or heart of the sunrise, it's no the same

Is Alan White playing the kettle drums, I can't quite tell?

Alan White has been in the band a lot longer, and he seems to have have the complete confidence of Jon Anderson. I'll give you that. I just don't like Yes albums after 1974. Why is Alan White always in such a rush?
I think Alan White is less Yes and more Styx. The Mellencamp comparison was a poor one in hindsight. I appreciate your p.o.v. though.

Topographic Oceans has a wonderfully 'loping' feel to it a lot of the time, which White engages with excellently: uncluttered, nicely shaped phrasing. He's kicking technical booty on Relayer, and lends a solid rock sensibilty to GoingFTO and Drama (the latter is one of my all time favourite recorded drum sounds - great production).
