Erik builds his own version of the BFG9000 Giant Laser Weapon from Doom, using an old CD Tower. And he does it all for under $20 (though it should be cheaper because you should throw away all your CDs anyway and use the CD tower that once held them).

Thats an industrial stapler, you should be able to pick it up from a hardware store pretty cheap.
