This is a great performance. If you think no one can sing like this gues again. GET BETTY CARTERS 'ROUND MIDNIGHT (ATCO). Simular to what you are hearing in this great McFERRIN performance but with words. BETTY CARTER was also refered to as BETTY BEBOP. She is most noted for using her voice as a instrument

at 1:30 he sounds like a trumpet with one of those things you put in the bell of the trumpet. best improv ever.

quite right - the mute he's using is a Harmon mute with the stem completely removed. Much like Miles Davis did.

Not every performance by a master has to be virtuosic. I could easily sing this piece as well, but I doubt I could keep a jazz-conscious audience enraptured for very long. Get your niece some singing lessons, and maybe she'll be the next Bobby McFerrin. ;)
