i agree mostly with lukaszzu3, "the best" 4WD is like "the best" gun or "the best" tool, it is what ever works best for you, what ever you feel comfortable with.

but, range rover, landrover, jeep, ect has had how many model changes since being relesed? and the Lada Niva? it beens made basically the same since its relese and there still going strong, they must have done something right (not broke dont fix?)

Addingo to the previous that in my opinion best equivalent to Niva is actually Jeep Wrangler.

I think it's great that everyone have comments. Because it's the truth that different wehicles are good in different conditions. Niva does especially good work in places there there is a need of manouvrability, in the forest terrain definetlty and also mountains. Disvantage is that it has non-efficent engine and some might argue if petrolium or diesel is the best.

niva is awesome of course but it has less wider track than the uaz which gave it the advantage on that particular terrain against the uaz, iam niva and uaz fan so i have no problem with anyone is better, btw uaz engineers helped VAZ engineers in the niva i guess i did read that somewhere.

So -it's 100 % different to drive on a desert than in a forest. Niva is made for forest conditions. As an officer I know that in our conditions in Finland you cannot manouvre with Abrams tank - you need a Leopard ;=)

Well - this part is filmed in some part of Finnish countryside. It's actually rigtht to ask about conditiopns: in wich tha car is the best. Nivas's success is that's it's light, very manouvrable. And can do these sirqumstances.

listen to me you stupid brazilian kid, first i'm older than you, second, i did own a niva and i did own some other russian cars, like volga and lada, all of them new, and believe me, come to my country, see the roads here, and test your mother fucking ego cars and see their durability, cause they won't last two years you punk, i know none of theese did while i drove them.the interior gave me headackes everytime i drove more than 5 minutes, fuel consumtion equals to a 3.5 v6 american ford escape,

oil consumption is 10 times normal, and i once rolled over with that box of yours that you call niva. fuck it. my freelander is 3 and smth years old, drives like new, have done 70k km no problems at all(russian shit did no more than 30k), fuel consumption is great on highway and town, and i can take it whenever to country side and get there where the niva couldn't, because it broke 500m back, had smth to do with the injector(or one of the many other problems it has)

if you say so... once I saw in the television a bunch of freelanders at the gay parade... Damn, what could I say??? You should visit Brazil to see what really are shitty roads and also see what cars can drive freaking easy... About the fuel consumption, have you ever heard about Ethanol technology? Guess what...Brazil owns it! 24 year old and still stupid? DAMN!
