Alain Prost Tribute

Back

My tribute to French Formula 1 driver Alain Prost.

51 wins
33 pole positions
4 world championships

Teams: McLaren (1980, 1984-1989), Renault (1981-1983), Ferrari (1990-1991), Williams (1993).

Song: "Feeling Good" by Muse.

I don't own this material. All copyrights to FOM.

Note: I have disabled comments. Too much arguing about a single driver, mainly whether Prost is better than Senna, or vice versa. And it's just spamming up my email now. Just watch the video and appreciate Prost for his achievements, even if you aren't a fan of the guy. If you don't like it, go somewhere else.

Everythin at Ferrari always had to do with politics. The 641 model was evolved from the F1 89 by Enrique Scalabroni, who did a magnificent job. But he was overwhelmed by inner politics and had to quit, and Nichols took his tasks.

Yes McLarenMerc, '84 should have been, but so should '90. Ever so close - that's one that got away. I read somewhere the BMW fuel from '83 was leftover Messerschmitt Komet fuel from the war! His record - 4 titles + the 81,82,83,84,88 & 90 very near misses point to a talent that remained right at the top over a lot of years in a very competitive era.

Oh right, so you discard Nichols's comment (one of the most respected paddock people) just because he's an engineer? And Senna was a saint, was he? Lots of drivers were close to JMB (Did you manage to read their comments when he died?) - Lafitte, Piquet, Alesi etc but, as you've said it, it must be true. Is it in Mansell's book? You clearly dislike Prost so why not give us all a break and go dribble over the Mansell pages instead?

I respect Prost much more than you seem to do, and you have a hard time facing the truth, Prost was a very political driver, face it, and you could gain some credit if you simply did something else than fire insults to vent your frustration mp4cv6.

Nichols might be right, but just EVERYBODY knows how Prost was politically involved and he used that to put himself in the best position. Guys like Mansell let their racing do the talking and Senna to. It's only natural for a driver to want the best car. The names you wrote like Laffite, Alesi etc were not political drivers, just friends with JMB. As I said, Prost is one of the very best drivers of all time, I put him way above Schumacher just in case you didn't know mp42cv6...

I don't think Prost ever used his "connections" with JMB to gain an advantage. There is the question of JMB favouring him at Suzuka 89, but I'm not sure Prost ever wanted JMB's help, if he did indeed get it in the first place.

And Nichols' exact position in the Ferrari team is irrelevant. Fact is is that he was a key member of the team during the Prost years and so is far more qualified to speak on the subject than you are.

Look Muppet, aka bupomatic, Williams saw a 3 time Champion on gardening leave with no job and pounced. Why is this difficult to understand for you? It was a no brainer they'd want him. FW had been a fan for years and wanted him as much as Renault did. Mansell pissed off because he'd been beaten at Ferrari and didn't want the same again. And yes, beaten fair and square. But yep, Mansell's autobiography:...the absolute gospel truth - according to Mansell and..and...who else?
