No, it didn't. Brazil received 3 million slaves from the 16th to the 19th century. The South had 4 million slaves in 1861 alone.

Wow, the "one black friend" defense. You really have hit bottom. That's so pathetic there are entire websites devoted to mocking it.

It's simple: if you believe slavery should have lasted for as long as racist Southerners wished it to, you might be a racist! And if you blame the slaves themselves for not overthrowing their armed oppressors, you just might be a racist!

That is actually a pretty good percentage for me, since I almost never call someone a friend until I get to know them and trust them.

Your comment might have weight for the type of person who after just being introduced to someone, calls them a friend.

You put words in my mouth stating I wanted slavery at all. I don't. But, being an impartial view of the past, I understand, though not agree, with how things worked back then and how people thought.

You try to use modern day morals to judge last century's culture. It doesn't work like that.

You use the propaganda of Lincoln's 'greatness' to ignore his racism.

Have no doubt, Abraham Lincoln was far more racist then Ron Paul could be.

Abraham Lincoln's first choice was to just get rid of the blacks altogether because they didn't belong in America. He was forced to free them in the long run because of politics.

Ron Paul wants to wipe the slate clean completely of all lines between races. That includes not using taxpayer's money to give out rewards or set up holidays at the drop of a hat.
