Michael Jordan 2002: NBA Record 51 pts at age 38

Back

At age 38 and 315 days, MJ shattered the record for the oldest player to score 50+. The game prior had MJ scoring just 6 due to injury which stopped his NBA-record double-figures scoring streak at 866 games. MJ came out to make up for that here. It should be mentioned that MJ's injury limited him to just 2 full-game scrimmages the entire year in practice. One must wonder, without the injury, what might have been possible at ages 38-40? Zone was allowed starting that year with hand-checking tighter than today as one-legged, twilight MJ broke a few records that day.

Exactly right. And in a sport like basketball you feed the hot hand, pure and simple. A guy hits 7 in a row or something it would be dumb to now think "Well, let's try this guy just to mix it up". Screw that. Give it to him til he misses a few. Just so happens in this game, all he missed were a few

I still say that he made a big mistake not coming back to Chicago Bulls. I think that he would have been the perfect swingman and probably would have won more games. The Bulls did have Jamal Crawford and Jay wiliams who were better than the guards that he had at Washington. He also had Marcus Fizer and and tyson Chandler. At the time I believe that Eddy Curry was the leader in FG% that would have been huge. His best chance other than playing for an elite team was Chicago. He was the best though

its just dat the blocker is over him, so he has to fade away to avoid the defender from blocking his shot.

a ball hog is not really a bad thing if he makes most shots which he did in this game
