lol one of my gaming PC's with just a 320GB HD can boot up in 30 seconds MAX. Wait a while till the drivers and technology for SSD mature. That's when they'll be useful for everyday use.

ssd's are the way to go, but not now bec of the price. a guy above us could be true saying samsung and probably all other ssd manufacturers are holding back the speed (read/write) for them to sell old stocks of their old technologies. So they just make it just a lil faster than the raptors w/c is the real competition atm. This has been the norm

You haven't done any intensive, or parallel writes then. You'd realize that the OS could lag for 3secs to a minute at a time, even in doing routine tasks. Any intensive writes, would destroy the user experience.

3 seconds to minutes for write latencies eh..well seems like SSD's are gonna suck as a main storage device for puters and the computer bottleneck will remain with this technilogy. I dunno why they put out lousy junk like that and call it innovation.

HEY look people NO mechanical parts! but your computer will freeze for a couple minutes while u click an icon! thats fucking idiot technology.

why dont they just liberate the DDR ram drive market instead of wasting time on ssds.

Prices are correct, however the only MLC SSD worth buying these days is Intel's, which has improved random write speeds and a wear-leveling controller to maximize the life of the disk (important for flash nand's).

The 80GB Intel is around $600, but if you need that performance boost, it'll certainly give it to you.
