Using Camstudio to Screen Record Video Tutorials
Backto request tutorials
I don't provide camstudio tech support so see the FAQ. don't ask me.
Download CamStudio:
Download Lame:
Download Divx:
You can also use xvid
Make sure width and height are divisible by 2. Use fraps or taksi for games, don't be a retard and try to screencapture a dvd. For more info search "camstudio faq" on google.
Also try ffdshow tryouts. If it says error using default compressor make the width and height divisible by two of your recording area.
Post your video tutorials or misc screen recordings as reply videos. Riverpast and Camtasia are good too... but then again they're not free.
For Mac try this

Don't worry, i think the WMM preview does that always. Try saving it as a movie file and it will look fine in WMV format.

I have a question about Camstudio. I downloaded it and the quality is fantastic! However, when I try to put the recorded video file through a video editing program (I tried Windows Movie Maker for example) the quality SUCKED!!! Any tips?

Check you have the up to date version of Flash and or re-install it. If it is a .swf file you CANNOT play it on the desktop inless you have the actuall software. The way you need to play it is embed the SWF file or upload it to something life Youtube or Blip.

My CamStudio records fine, but every time I stop recording and try to save my video, nothing happens, and I can't find the file I saved.

It saves it into the cam studio folder if you dont specify where you want to put it.
