. \ ' UBUNTU LINUX ' / .: YouTubin from Ubuntu: OggConvert

Back

I take Quicktimes (MJPEG subformat) and convert them with OggConvert. YouTube supports Ogg Theora/Vorbis files (video files). OGG is a container format like Quicktime or AVI, but OGG is open source and its subformats, Theora and Vorbis are "Patent Free".. Meaning it makes a load of sense for manufacturers to use it in embedded devices like audio players, dvd players, and such.

This video is just a demonstration of how you would post videos from your digital camera to youtube, without using Windows or a Mac, using nothing but Ubuntu Linux (a free and well supported operating system) with an Internet connection.

Im trying to upload an ogg file right now but youtube is taking forever to process it (i natively recorded it in that format from gtk-recordMyDesktop, which seems to be the best screen recorder i have found)

I've noticed that video files that are over 100MB are now failing, either youtube is swamped, their upload is not dependable or they are limiting the max size of the file based on type, or cable companies are throttling up-route bandwidth based on file types ( :P ). I don't know..

With a Audio:1 and Video:1 on ogg convert I get drastic compression, but most one hour videos will fit into 60MB of space, primarily screen captures.

Try LiVES for a simple video editor, but only for short videos because it is not very efficient. It has some UI quirks and some stability issues sometimes, but if you save a lot your first few times you'll learn where the pitfalls are and use it for what it can do stably.

Note, Art Rage 2.5, commercial version, does run in Ubuntu, very well.. You need to download and install a library, outlined on the Art Rage site (look in the forums, I found it via google). Also Innotek Virtualbox is flakey, but works, I recently got Fedora installed on it and it will install XP, I have demonstrations of playing video from netflix on Windows XP in Innotek on Ubuntu. Also, I was told by an Canonical representative that Hardy will come with better support for Wacom tablets.

BTW, I'm not using any of Linux video editors, now except Blender's sequence editor which I'm more comfortable with, and actually happens to work.
