The universe - How big are you?

Back

1 Dec 08 Update
Thanks for watching my video. I never thought it would reach more than a million views. I don't interact too much because of my poor English. But there are a few things I need to set clear.
1. "Why did you stop at the Milky Way?": Because I didn't have more images.
2. This video is not about God. When I made it I wasn't thinking in God, it's more a video about humility and humanity. But each person interprets the video in a different way, and that's okay.
3. I never said we humans are "insignificant"; saying that the true greatness is not in (or only in) the Earth doesn't mean we are insignificant. I just wanted to say that we humans need to stop thinking we are te greatest thing in the universe, since we don't know the universe well enough to say that. You don't need to be the greatest thing in the universe to be significant.
4. Please excuse my terrible English, I know there are a lot of grammar and spelling mistakes in the video, but the important thing is the message of the video, and I know that the great majority of viewers understand that.
5. "The scales are wrong": This was made two years ago, with some images I found in the web. Besides, as I said before, the important thing is the message. If you want correct scales search in a book and not in YouTube.

we truly are nothing :( - and its sooooooo possible theres life out there. for eg, we require oxygen, but there cud be an aquatic civilisation out there that dont need to breathe etc, just an example. not sayin theres fish ppl out there lol

Yea, quoting uses up valuable real estate in this erroneous 500 character limit, and I sometimes get out-right ridiculed for using sometimes (several in this upload) but it's worth it for making sense.

I'm all in favor of giving it a rest, but simply want to know, did you have a particular point or was I just taken for an easy target?

I'm in complete agreement with you here. Although neither of us is likely to change the a priori position we have brought to the argument, nonetheless its argumentation is at least as worthwhile as anything you're likely to find on a YouTube comments page. And although quoting further constrains the limited space we have, it's absolutely critical in this half-threaded, half-top-posted environment.

@TheJediCharles i got your point.
still, regarding your dialogue i think you could make better & faster progress if you had more space for a coherent argumentation (without a limit of signs, as it is with the comments here).
i still don´t know what exactly you want to say. seems to me you are both in a position where you are not making statements of your own any more, but just defending yourselves by responding to each other´s accusations.
but if you prefer going on like this... then do it.

That analogy was quite weak. Because you can't compare a powerful people such as King Jong Il or Barrack Obama to a person living in his mom's basement. These are 2 very different people.

This video only went out to our galaxy. Our galaxy is TINY in the whole universe, it should have gone out further!

Moorbride,

you're very polite and I understand your point. However, it pertains to the video, has remained civil (refreshing & rare on YouTube, eh?), and can and does benefit others who are interested, and most are who are in this video in the first place.

It's a direct discussion in a public forum and there's no reason why it shouldn't remain. It's not an obstruction to anyone else's and will burn itself out naturally soon.

Also, quoting is highly useful; it's hard to make sense without it.

hello, you two guys...
of course i and surely most of the others here are interested in other peoples´ opinions. but your discussion is lasting for 2 days now, you are often quoting each other, and it is difficult and time-consuming for the others to follow.
why don´t you write directly to each other? then you can argue better. and if that still does not help, exchange your phone numbers and talk on the phone.
and later, maybe you present your consensus here. how would that be?
