[ Mac OS X ] Installing WinAmp

Many Mac OS X users wish to retain their Windows favourite, Winamp. It's a highly versatile music player that supports more music formats than anything else (and that's thanks in no small part to the obscure chiptune plugins, I guess) I have seen so far.

However, the Mac/Unix versions were halted in development and thus WinAmp truly lives up to its name as a Windows only program.

However, the WINE project and subsequently CrossOver have been able to run WinAmp acceptably under X11 and Mac OS X for some time now, so now Intel Mac users are no longer left in the dark.

I chose to demonstrate CrossOver here, because it is a very worthwhile program that contributes code back to WINE all the time. WINE may be too difficult for inexperienced users to deal with.

fucking smart you use crossover .like windows alternative every time when you will want to open winamp you need to open crossover...So maybe itunes is better because you run on software when two ...OR IM WRONG?

yes I agree 100% it is just pointless. I was a Pc user for years and on PC i just loved Winamp from nostalgy and i think this is what is it. Just to show how crossover can bring windows native program running on a mac without installing windows... I think that open a lot of possibilities however it open the doors to all shitty and useless program from stupid windows :S

zzjimmal, yes, true dat. I loved Winamp, too. Back in 2000, I owned a Pentium II. I left Apple for a time, but I'm back now. All I know is that I'll never return to PC. I have a much better life with a Mac, and iTunes does everything I need for my music. It's very manageable, and it plays visualizers, too. Winamp was good in the OpenGL days but because it was new. It had those fancy graphics, skins were cool, but iTunes is everything someone needs today, I feel. I love iTunes 8.
